Nude Runs, Puns and Pads at the Peanut Farm

After a three year hiatus Melbourne's favorite charity cricket game, Batting For The Battlers, returned to St Kilda's famous, and at times infamous, Peanut Farm Oval.

Lining up were many of Melbourne's favorite comedians including, Dave Hughes, Russell Gilbert and Des Dowling, alongside the likes of Wayne Carey, Matthew Richardson, Tottie Goldsmith, Adam Zwar, Sam Pang, Garry Sweet, Rob Taylor and Steve Curry.

The weather gods obliged with perfect cricket weather the game, as usual was a close one.

Highlights of the day, in no particular order.

Gilbo copping a short ball to the chin which actually drew blood, prompting Hughesy to call for a helmet, not for Gilbo but for himself.

The big hitting from Tropfest winner and Balibo star, Damon Gameau.

The middle aged, overweight and rather hairy male streaker who brought the crowd to its feet late in the game with a run down the pavilion wing.

Former Richmond star Matthew Richardson bringing the aforementioned streaker down with a blinding tackle on the nude man's tackle.

The eventual winners were the Veg Out team but the Vineyard combo was hardly disgraced with Wayne Carey, batting without pads if you don't mind, almost stealing the game with some big hitting in the final overs.

No doubt the Vineyard team will return to avenge the loss next year.

The 70's - The Decade that just keeps giving

video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4263021558122262947#

One of the best film clips I've seen in years starring Richard Norton and possibly Bob Jones.
The tight high pants, horrendous acting and over the top fight scenes, its got it all. Enjoy

Funny Stuff from Four Young Funny Guys

Not sure what the TV execs were thinking when they passed on this great first up effort from
Melbourne comedians Troy Kinne, Tom Siegert, Monty Franklin and Dave Thornton.
It's clever and funny and has the potential to be a great sketch show. Oh I see, obviously they didn't want it showing up the rest of their line-up. Have a look and decide for yourselves.

Box Hill Almost Goes Up in Flames

Dave O'Neil and friends at the hotter than expected Box Hill gig
Box Hill Cricket Club's Funny Guys comedy night on Saturday night (29-1-11) was a hot one, literally.

The pre-gig BBQ culminated with two women wielding fire extinguishers as they put out the ten foot (alright one foot) flames sending plumes of smoke into the night sky.

With no harm done Melbourne comedians Dave O'Neil, Troy Kinne, Des Dowling and Karl Chandler did what they were hired to do, entertain the packed clubrooms.

Kinne did his usual brilliant job as MC, Chandler's lobbed one liners like hand grenades and Des Dowling discovered the girl up the front's name was Penelope Cleghorn much to everyone's amusement.

Dave O'Neil arrived straight from Dracula's Theatre Restaurant where he was filming a segment for Adam Hill's new ABC Talk show and brought the night home with half an hour of his best.

Comedians Put on the Pads

Forget the Ashes debacle Australia’s next great cricketing moment will be at the Peanut Farm in St Kilda on Saturday March the 5th.

After a four year hiatus the legendary Vineyard v Veg Out celebrity charity cricket match is back.

The Vineyward wine bar and the Veg Out community garden are two Melbourne landmarks and actors, comedians and sports stars will be divided into teams to represent these two great institutions.

Funny Guys Dave Hughes, Russell Gilbert and Greg Fleet have been big contributors in past games. Fleety actually hit the winning runs one year and still isn’t sure how he did it.

Many of your favorite local comedians will also be jumping into the back of the central commentary ute for a stint offering special comments on the skills of the once a year players.

The Vineyard team were triumphant when the match was last held and amongst the winning line-up were Wayne Carey, Joel Edgerton, Hellier, Hughes and Mr Wolf Creek himself, Johnny Jarratt.

Crowds of more than five thousand have not been uncommon in the past so make sure if you’re in the area you drop in for lots of beers, laughs and possibly a couple of streakers.

All it will cost you is a gold coin donation. More news as it comes to hand in the lead up to the big game. There’s a couple of clips here to wet your appetite.

Funny Guys in L.A

Great to see Australian Funny Guys trying their luck in Los Angeles.

Justin Hamilton, Troy Kinne and Wil Anderson have all spent part of their summer

performing in L.A.

For Troy the highlight, apart from performing, was meeting up with one of the stars

of Hot Tub Time Machine, Craig Robinson.

He also got to hang out with Jonathan Brookins, the winner of the latest series of reality show The Ultimate Fighter.

It seems the next big thing in Mixed Martial Arts took a shine to the Melbourne comedian, inviting Troy out on the town with him and his entourage.

Troy also had his backpack stolen while spending some time in a batting cage (sounds dodgy but in baseball mad American they aren’t uncommon). Fortunately his Aussie passport (a favorite with Mossad hit squads apparently) wasn’t amongst the stolen goods.

As well as making some invaluable contacts for future trips, Troy also had three hundred thousand dollars worth of cosmetic surgery done. This is his new publicity shot. Money well spent my friend, money well spent.

Happy New Year

After a great first year “bringing the funny” we’re back for another huge

year of world class comedy.

Every Friday and Saturday night, Aussie comedy legend Greg Fleet will hosting a cavalcade of Festival stars. No need to traipse up the highway to see a top line show, we’ll bring one to you.

Sporting and social club comedy nights will continue to play a big part in the Funny Guys comedy calender. Melbourne comedy stalwarts Dave O’Neil, Des Dowling and Troy Kinne will be at the Box Hill Cricket Club on January 29.
